Why Organic Dairy?

Milk Carton

Milk is considered as one of the most essential components of our diet as it is necessary for healthy growth and development. Now, we have the choice of having conventional milk and organic milk! The question is what are the benefits of organic milk? Why should you choose organic milk over regular milk?

Dairy products such as milk, cheese, and yogurt are an essential part of almost everyone’s diet. In the modern production of such essentials, however, a lot of unnecessary chemicals that subtract some of the most vital health components are used; pesticides, fertilizers, and hormones are just a few of these.

So… why organic dairy?

To begin, let’s go over what differentiates organic whole milk from the regular inorganic.

First, organic milk has more omega 3.

Omega 3 is a necessary fatty acid for healthy growth, and regular intake of omega-3 has been proven to help lower levels of cholesterol, decrease the risk of abnormal heart rhythms, and prevent blood clots from forming, among so many others. And, in a recent study, organic milk was found to have 62% more omega 3 fatty acids than conventional milk as well as 25% less of the opposite, unhealthy omega 6 acids.

It also has more conjugated linoleic acid.

A recent  study found that milk from grass-fed cows had 125 percent more conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) than conventional milk and 90 percent more than organic milk.  Although CLA is not considered an essential nutrient, researchers are very interested in understanding the acid’s health benefits. Some studies have shown CLA could reduce inflammation, obesity and other chronic diseases.

Women who get more conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) in their diets than others may have a lower risk of both colorectal cancer and breast cancer. It is also possible that CLA may help people who are obese lose weight if they take larger amounts of it with their diet and exercise plans.

Most CLA is acquired from consuming beef or dairy, so having it in even organic milk alone can make a world of difference. Pasture-fed cows that produce organic milk can make up to 500% more CLA that cows that are fed by typical confinement rations.

Third, it has more antioxidants.

Cows that produce milk organically have been shown to give it 50% higher levels of Vitamin E and 75% higher levels of beta-carotene, which becomes Vitamin A in the body, than regular milk. There are also two to three times more lutein and zeaxanthin, which are two antioxidants that help maintain eye health. Vitamin E is necessary for preventing cancer, heart disease, strokes, cataracts, and possibly some of the signs of aging, while Vitamin A keeps the immune system and skin cells healthy.

Organic milk contains a much lower omega-6:omega-3 fatty acid ratio, which is considered beneficial, than non-organic milk. The lower omega-3/omega-6 ratio is more desirable in reducing the risk of many chronic diseases of high prevalence in Western societies.

Not to forget that it has less added chemicals.

Cows raised on true organic dairy farms are kept away from things like GM feed, urea, and fertility hormones, ensuring that you get the best untouched benefits from your milk. When you choose organic, you are also choosing to buy from farms that do not use pesticides against insects and birds.

And, as for organic cheese

Cheese in itself contains a whole world of nutrients, and cheese made from organic milk will have double the benefits. Specifically, though, it can improve teeth and bone strength, prevent hypertension, promote healthy weight gain, and even prevent some cancers. It also specifically has Vitamin B, which is amazing for maintaining body functions and protecting you from diseases like Beriberi.

And organic yogurt

Yogurt is also made from milk, and organic yogurt can do wonders in preventing anemia, protecting bones, improving digestion, boosting immunity, and preventing vaginal infections. Calcium is the biggest benefit from yogurt in menopausal women, providing them with the means to help fight bone degeneration and osteoporosis.

There you have it- organic dairy has all the big benefits you’ve been looking for. It gives you more omega 3s, CLAs, and antioxidants, all while keeping the environment clean from chemicals. Organic may really be the clearer option.

It’s Even Better for the Cows Themselves!

Yes, you heard it right. Organic standards can ensure a healthier diet for the cows with well-ventilated, straw-bedded sheds so they live healthier with longer lives. So if you happen to be a Pet-Friendly Person-Think Over! In conventional dairy farming units the cows are forced to produce many times more milk then they would normally produce and that too by artificial means at a lot of times. This puts a lot of pressure on the Cows thereby affecting their health as well.

Surprisingly, organic milk is often fresher and healthier, as it adds up more nutrients over the conventional one. Since organically raised animals are not given antibiotics, growth hormones, or fed animal byproducts, it also proves helpful for people with allergies. This is the reason why organic milk lasts longer! Over and above that, it presents itself with a number of health benefits.
