Shorts and bikinis are lining the shelves already, and although the arrival of spring still feels fresh and new, summer’s right around the corner and it’s time to start updating your look. Changing out your wardrobe is pretty easy, and most people already have purchased clothes or have a good idea of what they want to buy, but what about your skin? Here are some tips to change-up your skin care routine to get ready to be seen.
Spring cleaning: Every year, people go through everything they own to throw out the old and make room for the new. It’s a great habit for your home and an even better habit for your skin care. Throw out any makeup, cleansers, lotions, or brushes that are more than 6 months old. According to Vogue, they could be hiding bacteria to clog your pores to hurt more than help. On top of that, you’ll want to switch your dark winter blush, eyeshadow, and lipstick colors out for brighter colors to coordinate with the weather and your new outfits.
Keep it light: In the winter, everything is heavier including lotion. In the spring, you don’t need as much moisturizer, as your skin holds more water. Use a lighter, water-based option to keep your skin from drying out but allowing it to use more natural water. Staying hydrated is important though, so don’t skip the moisturizer altogether.
Sunscreen: Never forget sunscreen. Nothing covers up sunburn very well, and getting one that is uneven can be disastrous for the rest of your summer. In the winter, most people just stick with SPF foundation or don’t wear sunscreen at all, but in the spring and summer when the sun starts to come out and you start to get outside more, it is more important than ever to use a strong SPF under your makeup. Keep your skin looking fresh and avoid damage from the sun
Exfoliate: One of the most important things you should do is exfoliate. After a harsh winter, your skin is probably feeling a little dry, so getting off that top layer of dead skin can make you feel like new again. Get rid of harsh scrubs and stick with exfoliate. It’s time to bring out fresh, new skin that will glow.
