While the sun may feel wonderfully warm on the skin, it can also do irreparable damage. Due to this, it is crucial that you find ways to protect yourself from the sun, especially in the summer months.
Avoid the Oil
Many people fall into the dangerous habit of slathering oil on before sunbathing. While this might get you a quick tan, it will greatly damage your skin. Is a summer tan now worth the years of age spots, wrinkles, and risk of cancer? Think twice about putting on the oil and opt for plenty of sunscreen next time.
Wear SPF 30 or Higher
When the sun is out, you must put on sunscreen, and it should be at least SPF 30. If you’re out in it for a long time, or you’re in and out of the water, then make sure you keep applying it throughout the day. It will create a protective barrier between you and the sun, keeping your skin healthy and free of any sunburn.

Wear a Wide Brim Hat
If you want to provide extra protection to your face, then wear a wide brim hat. While you should also be wearing sunscreen and shades, it will provide extra protection, keeping your skin healthy and youthful for longer. Hats are also beneficial for protecting your scalp from sunburn, especially for those who have fair hair.
Drink Plenty of Water
Dehydration is a great risk in the summer, so keep a water bottle on you at all times. If you know you are spending some time in the sun, make the effort to drink over 2L of water throughout the day to restore your hydration levels.
Wear Long Sleeves
It can be tempting to wear as little as possible to cool off in the summer, but this just exposes you to more sun exposure. Find light-weight, long tops and pants to give your skin an extra layer of protection.
Avoid Being Outside at Midday
The sun is strongest in the middle of the day between 12pm and 3pm, so if you are in the sun at that time, you should find some shade. If you’re at the beach, dive into a café, or put up an umbrella. If you are playing sports, suggest taking a break for a while.
While you shouldn’t avoid the sun altogether, you must take precautions when spending time in it in order to keep your health and your youth.
