Lean proteins

The last thing you want to eat is something heavy when the temperatures are high. The heat seems to make it worse. Sticking to lean proteins will help you stay lean and energized for those summer activities. Grilled chicken, turkey, and even fish are great light options that pack a punch of protein into your diet. These proteins are much easier to digest than fattier ones like beef, which may make you tired or sluggish. Fish is always a great option as it is loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, which helps against inflammation. If you aren’t a meat eater, or want a plant-based option, focus on hearty beans like lentils and chickpeas to provide fiber and nutrients without the fat provided by meat.

Herbs and spices

Certain herbs and spices have cooling properties that may help the body regulate temperature and refresh you. The obvious ones are mint and basil. Mint is one of the most refreshing herbs and is easily found in salads, drinks, and meals. Basil and cilantro are two other herbs that can be regularly found in meals and beverages.
