Healthy Tips to Satisfy That Sweet Tooth

Eating healthy is by far one of the best ways to improve your quality of life. Those who maintain healthy lifestyles, essentially live longer and have fewer medical complications along the way. Eating better, however, comes with a price. It means giving up foods and drinks that you may have once craved. While swapping out a beef burger for a turkey might not be so bad, giving up on things like donuts, cakes, ice cream, and cookies when you have a sweet tooth, is easier said than done. If sugar happens to be your crutch, these tips will help you out.

Yogurt Instead of Ice Cream

Ice cream is an all-time favorite for many – especially if you have a sweet tooth. However, ice cream is also packed with sugar and loaded calories. Instead of heading to the nearest ice cream parlor for a double scoop of strawberry ice cream, grab some fruit, and yogurt and make your own frozen treat at home. Take some plain yogurt, a spoonful of honey, your favorite frozen fruit, and blend until consistent of ice cream. Place it in a container and freeze for a few hours and you have yourself a delicious dessert.

Bake it Yourself

Processed and store-bought foods tend to contain more sugar than necessary along with a lot of other ingredients you really shouldn’t ingest. However, if you can’t give up baked goods altogether, you can just bake them yourself. This way you know exactly what’s going into the food and how much. You can use a healthy baking oil, sugar alternatives like stevia, and eliminate things you may not want like gluten. There are a lot of easy to follow recipes and videos you can try to find sweet treats you can indulge in without the guilt.

Eat Fruit

If it’s sugar you crave you don’t have to get it from a candy bar or baked goods. In fact, the best sugar for you can be found in just about any fruit you like. Instead of grabbing something packed with refined sugars which can be hard to digest, do your body a favor and grab a piece of fruit. Keep some fresh fruit with you at all times. Sliced apples or even a small fruit salad can keep you from wanting to raid the vending machine at work.

Indulge – Sometimes

Sometimes, depriving yourself of sweets altogether can work against you. When you crave something and finally get it, it can persuade you to overeat. It’s okay to cave into your sweet tooth sometimes if it’s done in moderation. For instance, one cookie or one scoop of your favorite ice cream once or twice a month won’t harm your body like eating it all the time will.

Sugar isn’t bad for the body, in fact, your body needs sugar. However, when eaten in large quantities on a regular basis, it can result in health complications including obesity and diabetes. If you’re struggling with cravings from a sweet tooth, it’s best to do something about it so you don’t overindulge. The above-mentioned tips will allow you to enjoy the sugary treats you love, without the guilt.
