Stress is a normal human reaction that happens to everyone- controlling it is key.

Be it work-related, emotional, or simply tiredness – everybody can feel stress in their lives from time to time. Feeling mildly agitated is a natural thing, but it is helpful to have ways of coping with it when it occurs. Some people like to get out the punch bag, others will listen to heavy metal. Many people even enjoy doing the dishes when they feel stressed. Here are some ways you can calm yourself down if you ever get the feeling that your life has too much pressure.

One of the best remedies for stress is exercise.

Working out on a daily basis can lower your stress hormones, improve your sleep, and make you more confident – all things which can combat stress. There are many different ways to exercise, and it doesn’t have to be gruelling. Try taking up a sport that you enjoy, and use it as an opportunity to socialize with friends at the same time. Things like badminton, squash, football, and tennis are all great ways to stay in shape, have fun, and reduce those stress levels.

If sport isn’t your kind of thing, then music has been found to be another way to combat stress. Research into how music is beneficial for people’s health has found that metal fans were happier and less regretful. It was also discovered that when listening to rock music while exercising, people worked harder. For this reason, it may be a good idea to get some bands like Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Guns ‘N Roses into your music library.

If you’re the kind of person who likes to indulge in cigarettes, alcohol, or coffee, then these things may be causing your stress levels to rise unnecessarily. Research has revealed that too much caffeine, for instance, can overstimulate your adrenal glands and also cause a rise in blood pressure. This, in turn, increases the heart rate and leads to feelings of anxiety. For these reasons, eating healthy food and drinking wholesome juices is a perfect way to help lower those stress levels. How about swapping out that morning coffee for a green tea or a fruit smoothie?

There are some normal, everyday activities that can also help reduce stress. Many people have a punch bag in their garage, which can be a great way to let off some steam. If you ever feel angry, go and smack that a few times until your adrenaline is pumping in a good way. Or alternatively, you could do a mundane task like the washing up, but play some relaxing music in the background. While doing so, you could even indulge in some meditation by trying out some breathing techniques.

As you can see, there are many different ways to combat stress. Different things work better for different people, so finding the solution that works for you is key. Healthy living and exercise is a great place to start, while you may also want to put more consideration into your music choices in the future.
